Description:

In the telecom industry, portability statuses refer to the different stages in the process of Mobile Number Portability (MNP) — the process that allows a customer to switch from one telecom provider to another while keeping their existing phone number.

These statuses are used internally by telecom systems, customer support, and marketing automation to track and communicate a customer’s porting progress.

Here are the typical statuses you’ll see in a porting workflow:

1. Request Received

  • The porting request has been submitted by the customer.

  • Awaiting validation or approval.

2. Validation in Progress

  • The new carrier is verifying identity, documents, or SIM ownership.

  • Internal and backend checks are running.

3. Pending with Current Provider

  • Request has been sent to the existing (donor) operator.

  • Waiting for their approval or rejection.

4. Approved / Authorized

  • Donor operator has approved the request.

  • Porting date and time are scheduled.

5. Scheduled for Port

  • A specific window (date/time) has been assigned for the number to switch networks.

6. Completed / Ported

  • The number has successfully been moved to the new carrier.

  • SIM should now be active on the new network.

7. Rejected / Failed

  • Porting was rejected (e.g., due to:

    • Outstanding bill

    • Wrong ID details

    • Number not eligible for porting)

  • User may need to re-initiate the process.

8. Cancelled

  • User or carrier manually canceled the porting request.
