Damaging Sender Reputation

5 Big “NO”-s, that will damage your Sender Reputation

What is Sender Reputation?

Sender reputation is the reputation of your email sending IP address that helps email inbox providers to determine whether or not you’re a spammer and whether or not your email should be delivered to the inbox. They look at your content quality, quality of contacts, and engagement levels of previous emails sent from your IP address.

There are a number of common mistakes that inexperienced email marketers do, and which should be improved the first place:

Collecting invalid email addresses

Misspelled email address is a common issue, especially when people use mobile devices. This, in its turn, may result in high hard bounce (failure to deliver the email) rate, damaging your sending reputation. As a solution, we suggest to  use real-time email verification to check the email address. In case of accidental typos, the users will get an error message and have a chance to correct the address before you accept it into your marketing funnel.

Not cleaning your email list

Keeping uninterested contacts in your list will cost you more money. Email marketers should try to re-engage these subscribers, otherwise remove them from the email list. However, if you are not ready to say goodbye to a large portion of your contacts, you’d better learn how to segment your list to achieve better results.

Sending inconsistently

Your sender score is calculated based on different factors, including your sending frequency. When you mail too often you are annoying your subscribers and generating complaints. But if you mail too little you may miss out on sales opportunities.

Sending poor quality content

This is another common mistake, done by marketers, who compromise quality with quantity. Using spam words, poor grammar and syntax, overselling to your customers, not using mobile optimized templates. These are all big NOs, which will lead to complains!

Spam traps in your contact list.

This is one of the most dangerous things that can happen to your email project and directly lead you into getting blacklisted.  The main types of traps are created by ESPs or blacklist organizers. The other type is the recycled spam trap, that are email addresses that have once been real and abandoned later by the users. The ESPs will deactivate the account causing hard bounces so that you remove those addresses from your contact list.
